FEAT Partnership College Course Series

The FEAT Partnership will offer a series of courses throughout the school year. Credits will be granted by NAES College and MCTC; courses will be taught by Minneapolis Public School staff and MCTC faculty; courses will be held in the Union classrooms. Other courses will be offered at NAES, MCTC, specific school sites or on-line.

CPL 100 Credit for Prior Learning Seminar
1 credit

(required if CPL credits are requested)
This seminar meets four times. Students are required to attend all four of the sessions listed below to receive credit. Students may earn up to 16 additional credits through this seminar process.

Cost: Tuition $85.00 (1 credit) Materials $10.00 (Any credits earned through this process will be billed at the $85 per credit upon completion and approval by faculty)

ED 125 Strategies to Tech Math

(No Prerequisite)

This course is designed to present some of the skills needed for the pre-service teacher in the area of mathematics. This course will examine and model approaches used in the classroom with hands-on activities while emphasizing the National Standards and the Minnesota Standards. A strong emphasis will be placed on the use of technology as a tool in the learning of mathematical skills. This course will present specific methods, research, curricula and media in teaching mathematics education.

ED 141 Computer Applications in the Classroom
3 credits

Cost: Tuition $255.00 (3 credits)

Students will be given to review, use and report on computer software and hardware that has or is specifically designed for classroom use. An in-depth review of Microsoft Office Products and Internet searching shall be included. Educational software that is being used in the classroom will be reviewed and discussed for merit. Hardware's such as digital cameras, scanners and video shall also be discussed and used to allow students to gain a firm understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of technology in the classroom.

ED291 Multicultural Communications and Professional Development Internship
7 credits (No Prerequisite)

This 7 credit training seminar requires students to attend all Staff Development Days and includes extensive work outside the classroom at your school site. Guest speakers will present successful strategies for multi-cultural communications within the public school setting. Students will incorporate these strategies into their Professional Development Plans. Students will create and present portfolios reflecting their learning at completion of the class.

GE 101 Introductory Writing
3 credits (No Prerequisite)

Cost: Tuition $255.00 (3 credits)
Books and Materials: $ 10.00
Instructor: Dr. Kelly Morgan

This course will focus on basic writing skills. It will include both literature and business writing. The student is required to do in class assignments writing. There will also be short homework assignments. Each student will work individually and in groups to work on critical thinking and writing skills. There will be an emphasis on multicultural literature throughout the semester. Students will do descriptive, narrative, expository, and creative writing.
