COLLEGE
NAES COLLEGE was established in Chicago in l974 to strengthen the leadership of Native communities and to ensure that tribal knowledge, traditions and values played a major role in the higher education of Native students. NAES College was the only independent, American Indian owned and controlled BA degree granting urban based college program in the country. When NAES College lost it's HLC accreditation in 2005, it became affiliated with Eastern Illinois University and the Medicine Shield College program, so that American Indian students in Chicago would continue to have access to meaningful higher education opportunities. We are sorry to announce that effective December 30, 2008, NAES College and Native American Educational Services, Inc. will be permanently closed down. We wish to thank our Boards, graduates, students, teachers, volunteers, donors and supporters throughout Indian Country for their support over the past 34 years. While we are saddened by this event, we are encouraged that in the fall of 2007, NAES helped establish the American Indian Association of Illinois (AIAI) to continue the important educational work that NAES began. AIAI will continue to support the Medicine Shield College program through Eastern Illinois University. For TRANSCRIPTS or more information about NAES College, AIAI and Medicine Shield, please contact the American Indian Association of Illinois, 5751 N. Richmond, Chicago, Illinois 60659, 773.989.7926, aiaillinois@aol.com. The fee for transcripts is $15.00 per transcript. In the spring of 2009, all NAES transcripts will be transferred to Eastern Illinois University. Information will be posted on this transfer in January 2009.
